Germs

In health, we are learning about illnesses and disease. We are learning about different ways to prevent getting sick.

Today we used a germ kit from public health.  We used a special lotion on our hands and then used a black light to see the “germs” left behind.  Next everyone washed their hands the best they could with soap and water.  Then we looked at our hands under the black light again to see if we washed away all the germs.

Tylan’s hands were very dirty after putting on the special lotion!

We learned that there are some spots on our hands that we forget to wash. We also learned that you cannot see germs but our hands are usually quite dirty.

Painting Fun!

On Friday  our class earned a special reward day! We have been working on coming into the room quickly and quietly in the mornings and getting attendance done before O’Canada comes on. We finally did this for 25 days (we starting this challenge in February).  We earned gum day and a fun activity.

For our activity we did free painting! We rolled out large pieces of paper and students were able to be creative and paint whatever they wanted!

Check out our masterpieces below.

Social Studies

In Social Studies we are learning about the history of Saskatchewan. Students need to be able to identify Saskatchewan and Moose Jaw on a map of Canada. We are learning about the first people who lived in Saskatchewan. They are the First Nation people. Today we explored some tools that were used by the First Nation people many years ago. We know that today they use more modern tools.

We love blogging

We have been busy creating a video to show how we feel about blogging.  Most students choose to be in our video and everyone did a great job!

Today students were allowed to choose their own blogging topic and were encouraged to write at least 5 sentences on their post.  Everyone worked very hard! Please check out some of our posts!

Enjoy the video!

Friction and slope

Today we explored friction and slope in science with Miss Pilsworth. She is our pre-intern from the University of Regina, this is her last week with us!

We rolled objects down a slope to see how far they would travel.  We also changed the materials at the end of the slope.  We found out that carpet and sandpaper have more friction than the tile floor and Styrofoam.

We also learned that a car will roll farther when put on a high slope, it will roll slower and not as far when the slope is low.

Later this week we will get to create our own “Motion Mobiles”, we are very excited!

Fire Safety

Yesterday we had a presentation in the library about Fire Safety.  We all had a turn practicing “stop, drop and roll”. Don’t forget to cover your face!

Have you talked about your fire escape route at home yet?

Day of Pink

Today was Day of Pink.  Many students in our class wore pink shirts to support anti-bullying.  We also made a video with our Grade 8 reading buddies. Check out our video here:

We know that we can stop bullying by helping the victim and telling the bully to stop being rude.
